ALLITERATION BOOKS

FOR OLDER STUDENTS

Alliteration books are fun reading for children and adults alike.  This tip shares ideas for finding and writing alliteration books with older students.
 
This tip provides background information for:
  • WHY we should share alliteration books with older students
  • WHO this tip is for
  • WHERE to find alliteration books that will engage and support older students who are emergent readers
  • HOW to write alliteration books for all students, with special focus on using AAC

BINGO SONGBOARDS


 
Most children love the BINGO song (There was a farmer had a dog . . ..) 
This tip uses that idea, but provides visual supports. 
 
The tip also suggests creating new BINGO style songboards using:

  • Ready-made templates on the Singing to Learn CD
  • Creating new songboards to go with class themes
  • Using a blank board plus PostIt notes

BINGO NAME SONGS

 
 
Most children love the BINGO song (There was a farmer had a dog . . ..)  This tip uses that idea, but supports students in learning to recognize their names, and learn the letters of their names through that song.
 
This tip provides ideas for creating name songboards through:

  • A ready-made template on the Singing to Learn CD
  • iPad apps such as Sticky
  • Simply using a printed name and PostIt notes

BINGO RAPS

 

Most children love the BINGO song (There was a farmer had a dog...).
This tip uses that idea, but provides visual supports AND makes it more age-respectful for older students by using a 'rap' format, rather than a "kiddy song" format.

The tip suggests creating new BINGO style raps using:

  • Ready-made templates on the Singing to Learn CD
  • Creating new raps to go with class themes
  • Creating movies using iPad apps
